The Rolling Blackouts Are Not Just Another Rock Band !!

We lost power in the office yesterday for over an hour then had to spend another hour recovering a file system from backup. I just finished re-implementing backups of all our UNIX servers with Veritas. Nothing quite like a real live test! Whew!

Our development and test servers are here at our office location. We have UPS but the shutdowns are not automatic and take awhile, especially in the dark! When the power came back on I had to scramble to bring a couple of Oracle databases back up. Our production database and code is at a secure AT&T "bunker" with redundant power co-generation... sure glad for that!

Now I'm bracing for another day of this and singing "The Blackout Blues." Looking for the PG&E bill to figure out which blackout block we're on. Uh Oh, anyone got a flashlight? Someone please tell me it's Friday! Received on Fri Jan 19 2001 - 12:44:39 CST
