Home -> Community -> Mailing Lists -> Oracle-L -> RE: Higher Buffer cache
You know, I know that I am fairly new at this, but doesn't that seem a
little bit like overkill? I have never seen or heard of a configuration
like that. We currently have a gig of ram in NT servers, our shared pool
and buffer cache are both 92 megs. Anyway, the idea of the large buffer
cache is to cache data blocks that have been used by the users applications.
Just helps avoid disk access, speeds up performance.

Subject: Higher Buffer cache
DBAs
What is the implication of higher buffer cache? I came across a database which has 2 GB Buffer cache out of 4GB RAM. The shared pool size is 100MB, Large Pool size 10MB and Log buffer size is 32KB.
The Buffer cache hit ratio is 99% at this moment.
TIA
Raj
