   The key is, as you say, 'normal shutdown'. Suppose that, for a reason or another (usual DBA on holidays, processes killed in what an unsuspecting SE thought to be 'normal shutdown' or whatever) the shutdown wasn't as normal as you expected it to be ? You would look rather silly at the time of restore. Given that backing up the redo logs doesn't cost much, and even if it's unnecessary in 99.9% of cases, well, I feel better if this extra 0.1% is also covered. I do like Christian, and always backup them.
