I don't know what catexp is installed on my WinNT oracle 8.1.7 - I did not reconfigure the database that was created by the wizard. All the same I can create an export file using exp73.exe and the dump file is a valid Ora7 dmp file. I did not try to import into 8.1.7 with imp73 though.

As per my knowledge, forward compatibility is not provided in exp/imp. and neither can two versions co-exit on the same db.

I want to use imp & exp of oracle8i (using the feature QUERY) on oracle 7.3.4

I tried to use it - without running any catxxx.sql and got the following error:

Export: Release 8.1.6.0.0 - Production on Wed Jan 10 09:39:30 2001

Password:

EXP-00008: ORACLE error 942 encountered 
ORA-00942: table or view does not exist 
EXP-00024: Export views not installed, please notify your DBA 
EXP-00000: Export terminated unsuccessfully

can it be implemented without harming the exp & imp tools of 7.3.4 (working together)?
