Home -> Community -> Mailing Lists -> Oracle-L -> RE: Protecting the listener with a password
The password was put in because of a security hole. It was found that a =
user connecting to the listener could issue a restart with command line =
options to hack the listener. If the password is put in, you can only =
start and stop or restart the listener if you are running (Telnet or =
console) on the server.

Hi Stephane,=20
I remember this from class - that was the only function the password
protects. =20
Kinda silly. =20
I hope your morning gets better fast! No coffee must be miserable.

Hi,
I've tested the password protection on the listener (Oracle 816/Solaris) and it's not clear to me what gain I have (I have a cold, it's monday and the coffee machine is broke again) beside the fact that nobody can stop the listener without the password.
TIA
