Home -> Community -> Mailing Lists -> Oracle-L -> Snapshot of source data for a datawarehouse
Hi,
In the insurance business, the datawarehouse is
feedeed by 3 other applications.
The data needs to be captured after the accounting
closure and before any other change, the users want
the status of the contracts at each end of the month
(like in managing inventories).
The source applications only have the current status
(no history).
Our fear is what if the feeding of the DW doesn't work
in the appropriate time window ? The feed is on a
monthly basis for now.
I have 4 solutions to keep the data at the accounting
closure time in case of feed problems.
1. Have a backup of the source DB and recreate them
temporary in order to feed the DW
2. Have a permanent copy of the source DB
3. Have a copy at the accouting closure time of the
needed tables in the source DB
4. Have a copy at the accouting closure time of the
needed tables in the DW.
Any other solutions ? What are you doing ? TIA
