Viraj,
Here is a copy of a mail that I sent to the list yesterday about accessing metalink:
Do you have access to Metalink? I use this address with my web browser to get there:
http://www.oracle.com/support/metalink/login/index.html?content.html
You can register for free as long as you have a valid Oracle CSI number which you probably have if you have an Oracle license.
You can get access to Metalink's support database and search it using your Oracle error number. It's really pretty easy and intuitive to do. You will get a response to many common errors faster than you can even post to this email list.
Give it a try. I think you'll be pleased to have a new tool in your arsenal of problem-solving techniques.
Hope this helps,
Cherie

Hello every one,
Thanks a ton for the swift solution. It worked like a charm. I increased the semaphore setting (did not know how to do this, as I am not a system administrator) but a friend helped.
The utility is called sam, to be used on hp11. For your information, sam is a system administration utility and needs to be run as root.
I increased the semaphore setting (semmns) to 300, the previous value was 128, so I kind of doubled it, re-made the kernel and then rebooted, started Oracle, and worked like a charm.
Thanks once again for the great help provided, it certainly made my day and a strong believer in knowledge sharing! Thanks to all.
Also I would like o know how I can get this meta link thing, what is the URL for this and how to go about this thing.
Cheers,
viraj
