Not necessary. In case of heavy inserts/delete/update started on database by users and log files are filled very fast this message starts and you have to locate for such processes or users who started jobs involving lot of DML's. It happened to me yesterday as after year closing, users started new GL's entry 5 to 6 processed at one time with diffrent parameters along with other concurrent jobs (Oracle Financials) and I was getting same messages for a while say half an hour or until completion of those jobs. We are using ARCHIVE MODE have not seen such messages normally. Regards
Rafiq

Yes, just keep log_archive_start set to FALSE.

WARNING: when the online redo logs fill up the DB will stop with the ORA-00257
error.

Is it possible that you have your database set to manual archiving?
