If this is on Unix,
I would do the following:
1. Take a good backup(cold and export). Preserve archives. Just in case 2. Shutdown database and listener. 3. Blow the $ORACLE_HOME. 4. Install 8.1.6 by setting proper env etc. 5. Rerun the catalog scripts. 6. Restart the database 7. Check everything.
IMPORTANT: If ur system is Prod, test the strategy in a test env and
evaluate the results first
