When in stand-alone mode I don't use Net8 at all but simply ensure
Oracle_Sid is set and connect directly (ie supply no alias) - is this an
option for the boss?

does the same thing happen with TWO_TASK set to the local sid in the environemnt? that worked for me at another place, but is was with 7.3.2.
