Tapiwa,
It is my understanding that the stopping of the listner will only prevent = "new" connection to the database. Those already connected will function = normally. The connected users will not prevent the listner from restarting.=

Keep on mind that the connected users will have the ability to add, = delete, insert normally to the database. The cleanest method is to = "shutdown" the database and startup in the restricted mode to prevent = users from accessing the database while you are doing your exports. ROR m=AA=BF=AAm

Hie list,

I use export for my back ups. I want to prevent users from connecting to Oracle while backup is proceeding. I have in mind "stopping Oracle = listener"
before backup and "starting it" afterwards using lsnrctrl stop and lsnrctrl start.
Now my fears are, since some users may be actively connected, if I use = this
won't listener crush (sic) and fail to re-start.

Thanks in advance.

Tapiwa
