Home -> Community -> Mailing Lists -> Oracle-L -> RE: Oracle's internal tech support
On ODTUG last year there was a bit of an outcry about the quality of =
Oracle
patches for the Developer suite.
Duncan said that he was going to bring it to the attention of Oracle =
staff,
and I haven't seen as many complaints about developer patches since =
then.
So there was a clear benefit to seeing an Oracle employee on the list =
who
takes an active interest in the user community.
: )
I read that Oracle has created its own Oracle Applications Users Group, =
that
they are not as committed to the OAUG conferences as before. Oracle =
says
they are, but the number of people they sent to the last ODTUG =
conference
dropped significantly (800 last year, 100 this year at the Hawaii =
conference
http://oug-ottawa.org:8080/OOUG/OOUG.home, bottom right corner). I
personally like the idea of having an organized group of users not
controlled by a vendor, it seems to me that it makes for better =
discussion.
Oracle of course wants to tell users what they are doing for them, but =
in my
opinion the communication should also go the other way, with users =
telling
Oracle what they would ike to see.
It makes for better marketing for Oracle (if marketing is about finding =
a
proper "fit" for one's products), users feel listened to and their =
concerns
are addressed. And Oracle gets to tell users, in an open, neutral =
setting,
what new functionalities they are introducing.
It seems to me everyone wins, even though to short-term thinking it =
might
seem like less of a hassle to have to deal with users on an equal =
footing.
