If my primary didn't have time to archive the last online redo prior to crashing,
then YES I would need the archive logs.You see I have this silly habit of
trying to recover as much data as possible. :)<br>

Buddy please check it out u do not need the logfiles when the database is
in mount mode and getting recovered once u activate the database the logfiles
will be recreated if the logfiles are not there. <br>

<blockquote type="cite" cite="mid:F001.00282693.20001215120531_at_fatcity.com"></blockquote> Buddy, I can't speak for 8.1.6 or later, but in early 8i releases (8.1.4, 8.1.5) if you tried to use RESETLOGS during standby activation and there wasn't SOME type of file representing the online redos in as placeholders, the database would crash with an ORA-600. Silly me, I guess it just made sense to copy a few extra MB and play it safe then have to spend time putzing around while my users were waiting for the database to resurface. But, you're right, I guess I need to experiment a little more, because clearly I don't know what I'm talking about. :)<br>
