AGAIN!! rman questions

Hi!

 Sometime I had asked about which
 commands cannot be used without recovery catalog.

 As per manual
 following should not work.

                                        
change ... available,  orks           

change backupset ... crosscheck works ,
change backuppiece ...crosscheck works

 However, without recovery catalog I've
 observed that the following do work..

 RMAN> change backuppiece 90 crosscheck ;                              
                                                                                 
RMAN-03022: compiling command: change                                            
RMAN-08074: crosschecked backup piece: found to be 'EXPIRED'                     
RMAN-08517: backup piece handle=/Backup/SL/SL_s90_t415751404 recid=90 stamp=4157 
51404                                                                            

RMAN> change backupset 90 crosscheck;

Question is 'how do I interpret the above'
