Just FYI,

Our Production team backups our servers to tape and sends the tapes off site for storage. They can be retrieved in less than one business day (not good enough for some). However, they always keep a copy of the most current tape too.

We have had to do a point in time recovery in the past and it was successful and timely. But it was due to data corruption so that we were still able to apply the local logs.

none that I know of... it would all depend on what your company/users expect by way of recovery from disaster. If they are willing to wait days, you don't need an offsite location.

If they aren't, you need another data center, preferrably in another state or at least another city, that mimics your environment.

I've worked in places that had disaster recovery sites, and places that trusted that mirrored disks were enough.
