I've met an OCP who did not know how to create a user. Quite the moment, feeling respect for an entire class of certifications go out the window (obofcourse: I know not all (or hopefully many) OCPs are this clueless, but the fact this person could attain their OCP and not know how to create a user scares me a little. It has been six months since this person came on, and the level of clue attainment has progressed exceedingly slowly.[1])

Personally, I'm torn between attaining OCP status - it would be a good career move wrt salary, and I would definitely learn theory I don't currently have, but I don't know if I value the certification itself enough to persue it. By persuing it, I lend credibility to a cert I don't find very credible.

Cheers,
GC

  1. I thouroughly enjoy helping junior staff, and learning from peers and coworkers with more experience than I, but this particular person has proven remarkably resistant to both attaining clues and receiving advice. Apparently, going back to school to get their cert has taught them everything that needs to be known about Oracle, and everyone else can go to $PLACE_OF_DAMNATION. Of course, this is more a character trait than a fault of OCP. Alas, I digress. Thanks for letting me rant. -- "The opposite of a correct statement is a false statement.
