I beg to differ : I am running 8.1.6 on NT with log_checkpoint_timeout =
=3D 300
and can have as much as 40 minutes between log switches.
I suppose that forcing a checkpoint does not forces a log switch =
(whereas
the log switch forces the checkpoint).=20
Anybody having an idea on how to force a log switch ? Alain.

Both of these values can=20 be dynamically altered using ALTER SYSTEM. Regards, Kieran Murray Norkom Technologies, 43 Upper Mount Street, Dublin 2, Ireland Tel:- +353 86 8117916 -----Original Message----- Sent: 29 November 2000 22:03 To: Multiple recipients of list ORACLE-L I know that the recommended optimal log switch interval is 30 minutes, and our log sizes of 20Mb average a little less than that. Now that I am looking to implement a standby database, my users have a requirement that no more than 15 minutes of data should be lost if we need to fail over to standby. I was looking through the Oracle 8 reference (we are running 8.0.5 on SunOS 5.6) and I could not find one that would force a log switch based on time, not size. Is there one, or do I need to create a script that simply forces a log switch every 15 minutes? TIA, ------------------------------------- Steven Monaghan Oracle DBA MSC Industrial Direct Co., Inc.
