Huh. I am just wondering how difficult it is becoming for new DBAs. I started in DBA field about 4 years back. Bak then there was 7.x. Then came 8.0 and 8i. The new features in newer versions they amount to be almost same or prpbably more learning stuff as the basic DBA stuff I did in the beginning. Still more and more things are coming. I just wonder sometimes that how difficult it is becoming for new DBAs to begin.

Back when I started, Oracle on NT was rare. In the beginning, I had to work on UNIX only. Oracle DBA without UNIX knowledge was almost unimaginable.

Recently, I trained two DBAs (not as profession but I these were close friends...), one of them I taught very closely. Let me tell you that I learned a lot of things. But not to divert from the topic, the Oracle DBA field is becoming so wide now that even for existing DBAs, we have to keep up with it. Whole lot of new features come in and for 'Backward Compatibility' very few - hardly anything - goes obsolete....

And coming back to the statement above
>Oracle doesn't want to do.....

I feel that due to increased complexity, increased number of production databases, and recent increasing demand for IT and Web-Tech wherein 'DATA' is still central and important issue, DBA field would remain green for a long time.
