Home -> Community -> Mailing Lists -> Oracle-L -> RE: RMAN question also
Ruth,
Sorry but I think I am missing something here (maybe I have it backwards). If I have an 8.1.7 catalog and am running RMAN there to register (hopefully) and backup my other 8.1.6 machines then I am doing that - going from 8.1.7 to lower versions - that is what is failing. I can't seem to register older versions without getting an error that they are not compatible. It makes sense to me that I should be able to backup older versions of Oracle with 8.1.7 RMAN ... I only want to backup one or two releases older (still 8i) and I am getting these errors. The metalink articles I can find aren't all that helpfull becuase 8.1.7 isn't on any of the matrices yet.
Now Metalink is not even responding to see if there are any answers to my posts, but there were several people complaining that 8.1.7 couldn't backup 8.1.6 .... any thoughts?
Thanks again
Adam

You can go backwards but not forward. Use an 8.1.7 recovery catalog and you can backup databases in a lower version and 8.1.7.
