I have worked as a DBA with both..
Here are some differences..
SQL server:
- supports multiple databases within one instance - 'cold' backups can be done online (!!) - is quite stable in production mode upto 10GB in my experience, I havesupported some live trading databases for large banks in downtown Chicago..
