We had a similar error but with the installation of
the Oracle 8.1.6 Client software. We received the
same error message saying that certain library files
could not be found or did not exist when it attempted
perform the link process. We are running Oracle 8.1.6
on Solaris 2.6. In our case the cause was
unsuccessful installation of OS patches. When we ran
showrev -p the patches were listed. However, in closer
examination of the log files for the patches, many
failed to install properly. Incidentally, one of the
OS patches being applied was a dynamic linker patch.
Once re-installed correctly, the problem went away.
