We have a similar setup, and we use IP addresses in all of the config files
where it is appropriate. It made server upgrades for our test and
development, when they were ready we change both IPs and reboot both
servers, and when the clients reconnect they don't miss a beat and we don't
have to change anything on the client machines.
You can use the IP address in the listener.ora file as well, we've tried running a listener on each of the NIC cards for load balancing, but found we weren't saturating 1 NIC much less two, so it's a backup now.
What is the status of Oracle Name server? We hadn't used it because our 'high' powered Oracle consultant said it would be desupported soon. However some of the stuff on 9i looks like that is not the case.

Hi Gary,
The tnsnames files will all have to be changed on all machines that
reference that machine if the tnsnames file uses machine name instead of
IP address.
