Subject: RE: error with upgrade of 8.1.6 to 8.1.6.2.1 response
James -
I am experiencing a very similar problem. Trying to upgrade form 8.1.6 to 8.1.6.2.1 on Solaris (mine is version 6). When I run the installer, it says "There are no patches that need to be applied". I have ftp'd the file more than once - nothing changed. I also have a TAR open with Oracle - so far, nothing. They thought I might have a problem because I have a logical link defined to my $ORACLE_HOME, but changing that did not affect the patch installation.
I'll keep you informed if I hear anything from Oracle.
Lisa
Thanks, I am sourcing the jar file location. $ORACLE_BASE/Disk1/stage/products.jar. At this point Oracle has me re doing
the ftp to see if that works.
Thanks for the help.

Where did you run the runInstaller script from? On HPUX there was a line in
the README that said not to run it from the root of the patch, but rather go
to <patch_root>/install/hpunix and run it from there. Does the Solaris installation have a similar structure? You may want to try that.

Hi there, I have opened a TAR with Oracle on this one, but I am wondering if
anyone on the list has encountered a similar problem.
I have downloaded the 32bit patch/upgrade for Sun Solaris, we're using version 7. I exploded the tar file and ran the installer when it processes the .jar file it errors saying "Problem encountered, Invalid Staging area. There are no top level components for Solaris available for install from this staging area."
Again the instance is 8.1.6.0 on Solaris.
Thanks for any assistance,
James
