Home -> Community -> Mailing Lists -> Oracle-L -> Enterprise Manager help (database service names)
(First, sorry for the cross-post. I forgot which maillists are pointed to
the same list).
Situation:
I have just installed Oracle Enterprise Manager. After starting the
Managerment Server, I brought up the Client Console. I then used the
'Navigator' menu, 'Discover Nodes' option to get a list of listeners and
databases for a node. It finds them and populates the entries.
Here's the problem; All my database names have the machine name appended to
the db name.
For example: My hostname (Unix server name) is saturn. I have several db
instances on this host. One is sales. When the databases are configured
(automatically) in OEM, they are listed as 'sales_saturn'. When I try to
connect to the db, it tries to connect to the SERVICE name of
'sales_saturn'. The service_name entry in the tnsnames.ora is just
'saturn'.
I cannot edit the service: entry in OEM as it is grayed out. How can I modify the OEM to not append the host to the database (when creating service name entries)? Anyone else experience this?
Thanks.
SIDEBAR: The only reason I am forced to use OEM in the first place is because Oracle removed the old svrmgr program from the release (I came up on v7, then worked with Informix for several years, and now have sites with Oracle 8.1.6). My needs are to be able to monitor the system for the things svrmgr provided - topcpu, locks, mem, etc... in real time. If anyone has another way I can get this information (and not break the bank, svrmgr was free), without using OEM, please share your experiences. ps. How well does OEM do this anyway?
