We had an SA run multiple tests to find out whether Raid 5 would work for us. His test proved conclusively that it would work, so Raid 5 was instailled (AIX 4.3 on an IBM SP2). Then the database grew. And grew. And grew. And ... We started experiencing what the DBA's had predicted - slow writes. The SA's came back and said that we should get off of Raid 5 ASAP.
