Can I still do a full database export in 8.1.7?

We are thinking of upgrading to 8.1.5, 8.1.6, or 8.1.7. I was looking at the readme file for 8.1.7. I saw the following excerpt:

Incremental, cumulative, and complete Exports are obsolete features. They are no longer documented, nor is their use supported by Oracle Corporation. For database backups, you should use the Oracle Backup and Recovery Manager. See the Oracle8i Backup and Recovery Guide for more information.

We are currently doing full exports as part of our backup and recovery scheme. We also use RMAN to do full on-line backups but rely on full exports as a fallback or alternative method of data recovery.

Is it true that full exports are not possible in 8.1.7? Can anyone confirm that for me on their database. I'm talking about an entire database export.

This is fairly critical for us.
