Ifyou're using tar to backup files, it supports remote tape devices by specifying the output file as [user@]system:/dev/???.

Hello all,
I am facing a problem at my work place.I am having two unix machines and the tape drive is there only on one machine.I need to take the weekly backup's on both the machines and could you please tell me how to "share" the tape drive connected to one machine so that i can fire the backup from other machine? Both the machines are in the same network.
There is a severe space problem on both the machines so there is no possibilityof making a intermediate copy of the data and then ftp'ing the same to other machine and perform backup. That can't be done.
The tape drive is of make HP - DDS3
Thanks and awaiting replies..
Uma
