The way we used to backup at a previous gig was to use IBM's ADSM. This is a wonderful product and once you have got your mind around the fact that all backups after the first one is an incremental, and the concepts of retention and versioning is different than Legato, it chugs away smoothly without problems. ADSM clients always back up to a disk pool that is bled away to 'colocated tapes' later on during the day. The tapes and tape libraries are relatively inexpensive and there have been very little problems once everything is setup. We used to backup about 50Gb of incrementals everyday and cloned them all within a few hours (I could be off with the figures since I wasn't administering or monitoring ADSM there). I remember an active ADSM listserv somewhere that the Admin used to use as well.... Received on Thu Oct 19 2000 - 12:02:12 CDT
