Cherie,
Oracle 8.1.6 is a new install (new Oracle Home). The upgrade is (depends on
your environment) at least one script.
In the 'migrate guide' there's a good description.
I've done a mamual upgrade (not a production db) and it took about 2 hours,
the db was about 2 Gb.
The upgrade / migrate script also runs 'catalo' and 'catproc' so your
objects will be invalid. This was / is the longest part.
There's already a patch to 8.1.6.2 (on ibm-aix) hth

Onderwerp: Can 8.1.5 to 8.1.6 be done with patches?
Is there some sort of megapatch or patch bundle that can be downloaded to upgrade from 8.1.5 to 8.1.6?
Is this a fairly simple upgrade that can be done sort of transparently to the users? Or is it a major upgrade that is more appropriate to be done with a CD and a regular upgrade maintenance window of a day or two of system downtime?
TIA, Cherie
