Looks like the very current versions of VxFS ( 3.3.3) need a patch for
busy write environments. 



Quoting a Sun Field Engineer:



There is a new bug from Veritas on VXVM 2.6 and VXFS 3.3.3, where under
heavy load writes from the application can be blocked or stopped.  The
proper fix is to patch VXFS and upgrade VXVM to 3.0.4 with a patch.
