Hi Joe,
I most definitely did NOT say anything in favor of NT, I merely said = that the factors the poster listed should not be considered relevant for = choosing an operating system to host a business database. In fact, I = much prefer Linux (and am currently running RedHat 7 on my laptop), but = if I mentioned the inclusion of source code and the fact that it can be = had for free as compelling reasons for a customer to choose Linux over = any other operating system to host a business database, I would be = laughed out of the room. Sure, there is lots of support available in = the Linux community, but is anyone posting to a listserv or newsgroup = accountable for the advice they post? NO. And speaking of sucking = money, Uncle Larry definitely ain't running a charitable institution.
Chuck=20
Oh please, there is more support and chance of getting something = fixed in linux world than EVER IN WINDOZE world. Just how do you = expect something like NT to run business critical apps when the solution = for anything that goes wrong is reboot or reload.=20 yea this is a sore spot, cuz M$ sucks, the software sucks, the company = sucks people's money.=20

For business decision makers, and most DBAs the inclusion of = operating system source code is not terribly relevant. Free also = generally implies unsupported or informally supported (i.e. listservs, = newsgroups...) which is not acceptable for business critical = applications.=20
