Re: standby DB in archivelog ?

Hi.

My understanding in this area is this:

the means of relaying the information from the primary database to the standby database is via applying the archved redo logs. In order to generate those logs, the primary database must be in archivelog mode.

when a decision is made to activate the standby database (without "gracefull switchover")
the primary database is no longer valid. In order to make what was the primary database the new standby database, the standby (now the primary) must be cloned and deployed.

Oracle has lots of white papers relating to this.
