Home -> Community -> Mailing Lists -> Oracle-L -> Re:FW: Oracle on Linux
Paul,
I use Linux both at work & Home for various "see if it works reliably" tasks. As of yet we're still running HP-UX as our prime platform. From that I see no problems with Oracle 8x on Linux. Yes, I've used RedHat mainly because it seems to have the least hardware requirements & is easiest to install & configure and I'm no Unix Admin. As to the platform of choice, almost any Intel platform of the recent past works well. I'm running it on an old 486-66 with 64MB of ram with no problems.

One of my co-workers came with this question to me. Can anyone make a recommendation ?

I have a client who wants to try out Oracle 8 on a Linux, Intel platform.
The requirement is to load an export of an operational database and allow a single user to interrogate it with a suitable reporting tool.
Does anyone have an experience/advice about this, initially I am thinking of things such as:
