Is this for 8.1.6? I searched through metalink for this, and couldn't find
the reference -- do you remember what you were looking at?
All I found was confirmation that the max. number of datafiles on Solaris for 8.1.6 was 65534. And another cool thing -- the MAXDATAFILES parameter at db creation is no longer the hard limit -- the control file will actually expand to accomodate more files, as long as your db_files parameter allows it.
I love metalink.

According to the metalink, only 1000 datafiles have been tested by Oracle Co. -Linda

I assume you are responding to me?
The documentation I have for Solaris 2.x is the Oracle 8i Administrator's Reference. In the Database Limits section it has the maximum value for MAXDATAFILES as 65534, which is a far cry bigger than 4000. Like I said, the numbers make me nervous, so if you can point me to any other documentation of the limitations I would be most grateful.
Thanks,
Diana

I will not work. See limitation about number of datafiles. As I understand
is
going to be over 4000 tablespaces located in separated database files...
