Also... OS has to support both 734 and 816.

For example, HP-UX 10.20 supports 7.3.4 and HP-UX 11.00 supports 8.1.6 and thus
it is not possible to have 7.3.4 and 8.1.6 on HP-UX 10.20 machine.

Yes, it's possible. You just need to set-up the correct ORACLE environment (ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID etc), when logging-in.
