My alert logs are in $ORACLE_HOME/otrace because that is where I have the backgroun_dum_dest set it my init<sid>.ora. In other words, you can set them to be anywhere in the init<sid>.ora. Check that parameter in v$parameters to see where yours are going.

Sorry,
I miss-read the path. The alert logs are generally at
$ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/trace.

I have noticed large trace files in $ORACLE_HOME/network/trace
directory .
I checked up my sqlnet.ora and listener.ora on server end but no tracing
has been enabled.
Can any body tell me why these files are their.
