First warning sign, "he didn't need the help". No one passes up help when
offered, not even me. An to answer your last question, NO, he was just too lazy
or dumb, or both.
Dick Goulet
Senior Oracle DBA
and a dba for the last 15 years.

I was recently told by management to help out this dba that was trying to recover his corrupted database. It had been going on for a week. He told me he didn't need the help, since he has been a dba for 14 years. Yet from the phone conversation I learned that he does not do online or offline backups, only exports 3 times per day. He mumbled something about telling management that this should be put into place...uh, if he has been doing this for so long, wouldn't he have some scripts ready from previous work? Does he really need permission to backup the database correctly?
