Well I just began experimenting, and I realize that v$thread is probably a
more accurate reflection of when the database has opened. V$instance will
tell you when the instance started. So, it appears the open_time in
v$thread gives the time when the redo logs are opened, versus startup_time
in v$instance which reflects the time the instance first when into nomount.
Comments and corrections are welcome.

Subject: RE: open_time in v$thread
I see a difference of 1 minute approx. in the open_time of v$_thread and the
startup_time of
v$_instance. Any idea what does each time refer to when a db is started?
Thanks,
Amar

I liked to use v$instance, startup_time is the column name which you can format out to the minute and second.

Hi Folks,
I've noticed that open_time field in v$thread is varchar2(20) in V7.3 Oracle but in 8.0.5 it's a Date format field. The net result is that with 8.0.5 you only see date but not time that database was opened. Does anyone know if the "time" titbit of information is available from some other view?.
Sean :)
