ulimit -a
What value do you see for vmemory? If it is not unlimited, ask your = sysadmin to bump it up as high as you can manage.

I have suddenly started experiencing this error on my dev database

This is 816 on Sun. Is this a case of excessive fragmentation in the =
shared
pool? Or is the shared pool itself too small.
