Home -> Community -> Mailing Lists -> Oracle-L -> RE: Password
I encountered an interesting thing recently with 8iR2 on Win 2000. At the
beginning I was never prompted for a password when I connect internal. Then
one day I got the "Credential retrieval failed" message whenever I try to
connect/internal. I commented out SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS) in
sqlnet.ora file. But now it prompts me for password when I
connect/internal. Has anyone seen this? How do I get back to where I won't
get prompted for internal password?
Thanks.
Richard

It is just - you need to know internal password and you can change all other password once you connected to it.
Even if suppose you don't know internal password, you can recreate password file by using orapwd utility.
Which version you are using, and on which platform???
If you are using Oracle 7.3.4 on NT, then you can create an entry in
registry as -
DBA_AUTHORIZATION and its value as - BYPASS
When you will connect from server manager on the srever, it won't ask you for internal password and you can change all passwords which you want.
