fyi: at least for the ODTUG area of fatcity, it appears that a web archive is planned.

Hi folks...

Just wanted to add some information to this topic.

  1. There ARE archives of this list, and all other lists. They've been in place since Day 1 (1995??) of the lists. The existence of the archives are mentioned in the welcome message that every new subscriber gets. How to use the archives is described in the HELP text available from ListGuru. The archives are searchable, and you can pull individual digests, files that have been contributed using SUBMIT, view a list of all topics for a date, etc. [more on this below ***]
  2. It is my intention to make all list archives available on the web. I haven't done so to date because of limited bandwidth and funds, but you can expect to see this kind of functionality within the next couple of months. I have a beta version of this in process right now, but it's not ready for prime-time yet. Alas, time is in short supply lately too. ;-) The functionality intended will be to browse digests and individual messages, search, sort, report, download, etc. A later version of the system will allow one-way posting for registered users (web->list) and ultimately a full mirror of the lists and the web (this is quite complex, however). If you want to participate in the beta of this, please let me know and I'll get back to you in a couple of weeks.
  3. Alain mentioned that he proposed having the lists archived to the web months ago, but no one responded. I generally try to monitor all the list traffic, but I do miss the occasional post. If you (or anyone) ever has any comments, complaints or questions about the lists, please feel free to contact me at any time. I'm most open to suggestions, and many of the features I've added to ListGuru in the past year have come from user suggestions. My apologies for not catching your comment.
  4. Glad to hear people still find the lists more useful than the message boards. :-)

thanks,
bruce

    HELP INDEX
    HELP GET
ARCHIVES This should give you the basics and put you on your way. I would like to request one thing, however: **PLEASE** do not start requesting the last 2,539 archive digests, okay? This easily overloads our server, not to mention the network traffic getting it delivered. If you want multiple digests, request NO MORE than maybe 5-6 a day. I would very much appreciate it!

thanks,
bruce
