I hate to sound cynical, but I thought it was a little ridiculous for the article to say "america was shocked" by Oracle snooping on some of the shadowy political groups that were supporting Microsoft's opposition of the U.S. (federal) Justice Department's prosecution of Microsoft for monopoly violations.

After being subject to the numbing spectacle of watching a variety of commerical and political interests taking large bites out of each other and criminalizing politics for the last generation or so (Watergate, Iran-Contra, Monika-gate, and now the Clinton-Gore fund raising scandals), this "trash-gate" will probably not last long in the thinking of *most people* even if Microsoft decides to try to use it as a way of repeatedly bashing its competition in the media.

Anyone that thinks Oracle isn't driven by a vicious, hugely arrogant capitalist mentality essentially devoid of any moral integrity beyond the strictest market requirements (eg, Larry Ellison's silly, but disgustingly elitist & self-indulgent attempt at posturing as a cult Samurai figure) doesn't understand why/how they destroyed their RDBMS competition in the process of rising to the top.

regards,
ep
