Thanks for your input, Steve. It doesn't work though :-(
I had OMS-server running -and working- locally on my NT-ws first, but I = completely removed all traces of it. I have 256M ram in my workstation, = so it should be enough.
I can launch the DBA-studio in stand-alone, and connect to the = OEM-repository, running on the same machine as the OMS-server.
The OMS-server is running properly on the Solaris;
The Oracle Management Server on host [octopus] is functioning properly.
=20
The server has been up for 0 17:50:03.501
=20
Target database session count: 0 (session sharing is off)
Operations queued for processing: 0
Number of OMS systems in domain: 1 (octopus)
Number of administrators logged in: 0
Repository session pool depth: 15
Repository session count: 6 in-use and 2 available, pool efficiency: =
99%
I can ping the server, but there may be a problem with DNS, i can't = resolve the service-name. We will change this this morning, and retry. = Eventhough I can, and do access it by the IP-address.
The command you gave me doesn't work;
$ vppctl -start
But I started the dbsnmp-listener, and the OMS-server. Isn't that enough =
to start the OEM-console remote? It works locally.....
The bottom-line is, it still doesn't work. :-(
What version of OEM?
=20
OMS-server on Solaris and OEM-client on NT, OEM 2.1, That's my setup =
too but mine works :-) I have experienced the NT client hanging a =
couple of times... it takes a lot of resource to display that annoying =
spinning world when logging in. Is there anyway to get rid of that? =
Anyway, I killed the jrew process from Task Manager and tried it again =
successfully. RAM=3D128M.=20
=20
Have you ever had the OMS-server running on the same NT box? If it's =
still running try killing it.=20
=20
Have you tried launching DBA Studio? (OEM2.1) Can you launch DBA =
Studio in stand alone mode?
=20
Have you tried configuring a WinNT OMS-server? If not try it. If OEM =
connects to the local NT OMS-server then you know there's a =
communication problem between Solaris-OMS and NT-OEM. Make sure the =
Solaris version of OMS is compatible with the NT-OEM.

Good Luck,

I was a bit wrong, but still it doesn't work;
The OEM-server was down, so the NT-console gave me this message. Now = I restarted the server, and the same login just 'hangs' No messages, no = console, just the login-window working to do nothing :-(
So it looks like the login sees something - it doesn't give me the = unable to connect message - but gets no response, and doesn't time-out.

Dear fellow DBA's =20 I have installed Oracle OEM server on a Sun Sparc-solaris system, =and I can run the console on this machine locally. But, I don't want to = do this, I want to run the console on a fat-client on NT.
I connect as the sysman at the IP-address of the OEM-server, but = it gives me a 'VTK-1000: Unable to connect to the management server = <IP>. Please verify that you have entered the correct host name and the = status of the Oracle Management Server' message.
I can connect with SQL-plus, UNIX etc. but this doesn't seem to = work. I re-installed the client-side, recreated the repository with the = assistant at the Sun, the management server, the listener and the = dbsnmp-client are running.
I don't know what to do anymore; do you????
Met vriendelijke groeten, With regards, Yst=E4v=E4llisin terveisin, ERIC LANSU,=20 Eric.Lansu_at_quicknet.nl
