You can . You need to run one script from rdbms\admin\ dir before you start
doing anything. I don't remember the script name from the top of my head. I
did the same thing once.

Subject: 8.0.5(32 bit) to 8.1.6(64 bit)
OK Folks,
This is a question I've posed to OWS and gotten an answer on, but I'd
like a
double check on what they've told me. Consequently I'm not going to tell
you
what OWS said.
Here is the situation:
We've an HP9000 T500 running HP-UX 10.20 and Oracle 8.0.5 with a 10GB
database
thereon.
We want to move the database to an HP9000 L2000 running HP-UX 11.0 (64 bit)
and
Oracle 8.0.5 (64 bit). [It's an HP support thing]
Question, Can we just take a cold backup of the original database and place
it
on the new server & then run the database, OR do we need to export the
original
and import it into the new server?
Metalink is not really helpful as there are contradictory posts thereon, and
as
I said I'm not going to post what OWS said just yet. Anyone try this
before???
