Well, I'm not a "true-blue" ozzie, but I would state that Fosters is _not=
_ served
in pubs/bars over here (at least in Sydney) and it's 4x, not 3. :-) Fos=
ters do
make a 'light' beer that is served locally, but I've never had it and nev=
er will.
Here's a brief list:
Boags Premium
Cascade
Coopers
Hahn Premium
Southwark
Resches Smooth (on tap)
Crown Lager
Old Chief (a friend likes this)
And ... if I wandered down to the local bottle shop, I'm sure I would fin=
d some
new 'boutique' beers that are quite good. Do they match up with world be=
ers?
Well, I guess that's a matter of opinion really and I'm not opinionated e=
nough to
really comment. But I would say that there are some quality beers to be =
found
down here. As you note, the concept of micro-breweries has not caught on=
... yet
... In my trips back to the US since I left in 92', I've found them to b=
e a
saviour. Would not touch mainstream US beers with a 300 foot pole and wo=
uld
assume most sensible American beer drinkers would avoide them too.
My 2c.
Cheers,
Casey ...
