The thing that odd about this is that obviously some folks on the list are
getting the original message first and then replying. I will be interested
to find out why it is that the original would arrive later than the reply,
even though both messages are going through the FatCity servers before
being distributed to the list.

This happens to me with some regularity, not just on this email list, but on one other that I read a lot. It's probably not your ISP, unless yours and mine (Verio) are both having the same problem. I've always just chalked this up to the vagaries of sending email out over the Internet.
