Unix help - creating a demo database

In solaris I created a user. user X
I want to run a demo database for user x. The file is titled demo.sql

If I wanted to run the file entitled =
$oracle_home/admin/network/etc/demo.sql
where would I enter this?

What does the ($) dollar sign do?
