Hi Bob,
Yeah, been up and down much of the Sierra Nevada range. This weekend we camped about 6 miles from where I work here in Fremont, CA (which is debatable as to whether it's a part of "Silicon Valley proper", especially by the snobs across the bay in Palo Alto:-) We saw Jack Rabbits, a cotton tail, a huge Horned Owl, a Harringer Hawk, a deer, a skunk (a dead one in the middle of the road), a Turkey Vulture, frogs and tadpoles, and tons of waterfowl including: Western Sandpipers, Least Sandpipers, terns, Killdeer, Brown Pelicans, American White Pelicans, American Avocets, Blue Heron, coots, mallards, Long billed curlews, and many, many more. We have several wildlife sanctuaries surronded by Silicon Valley, the greater San Francisco Bay area and 3 international airports.
Now I'm trying to wake up after a camping weekend. Need some cowboy coffee.

Ever been to Yosemite? I've gone a couple of times (my wife's sister lives in Walnut Creek) and gone backpacking in the back country. Loved the view from atop Half Dome the one time we climbed it. One of the best places I've ever gone camping.

I'm from the Capitol of the Tech Universe... Silicon Valley. :-) And I'm getting ready to go camping this weekend just a few miles from Oracle HQ. No really... there are group camping facilities in the tide waters of the San Francisco Bay. We'll be on the other side of the Bay from Oracle but from the top of Coyote hill we may be able to make out the Oracle towers while camping amongst the wild life. Weird huh? There's also wild life up in San Francisco but that's a different kind. This camping is pretty tame but we hope to go to Walt's Big Sky Country this summer to a very remote area at 10,000+ feet. No computers and out of reach from pagers and cell phones.
