Sorry for being off-topic..

 But in line with the above subject..

 We are planning to go for rman backups.. I am also aware that rman provides a way of
 cataloging my "old backups taken using o/s utility" ...

 Does anyone have any experience of "how robust and reliable" this is?  Since we 'normally' required 'old backups'!!
