Home -> Community -> Mailing Lists -> Oracle-L -> RE: checkpoint_process ini parameter
If I remember correctly, its because the checkpoint process was optional in
Oracle7, but in Oracle8 its required. I believe that Oracle realized that
having a checkpoint process was a really good thing and therefore should be
required, and not be optional. Does that make sense to you?

Subject: checkpoint_process ini parameter
Hello,
The initialization parameter CHECKPOINT_PROCESS which existed in v7 appears to no longer be available in v8 (it doesn't show up in the reference guide). Is this in fact correct? The ora_ckpt_<sid> background process is running for the database under v8 and I don't remember if it ran under v7 if CHECKPOINT_PROCESS was not set to true. Any help and information on how this changed between 7 and 8 would be appreciated.
Thanks.
